The story behind the making of indigo soap.

The foundation of my craft began in my twenties, with leather.

At 21, I founded MAYUMI HASEGAWA（Currently ACAMAL）, having studied tanning, dyeing, and leatherwork on my own.We have opened a directly managed store in Omotesando, Tokyo.

I handcrafted every bag, belt, and wallet using leather I personally dyed and treated, honoring the natural qualities of the material.
My creations were featured at Ginza SIX and other select stores across Japan, and I held solo exhibitions in Tokyo for five consecutive years, gaining a devoted following among business leaders, artists, athletes, and tastemakers.
Working alongside master artisans, I explored traditional Japanese techniques such as indigo dyeing and urushi lacquer, deepening my philosophy of respecting materials and creating without waste.

In 2020, we moved from Tokyo to Portland, a city embraced by lush nature.
During the stillness of that era, the small indigo sprouts growing in my backyard quietly awakened memories of my distant homeland, and the story I share with him.

Immersing myself in the ancient Japanese craft of natural lye fermentation, I found that the extracted indigo contained remarkably gentle and beneficial ingredients for the skin.
I wanted to capture both its beauty and its skin-soothing qualities in a tangible, hand-held form.

This intention, combined with my respect for materials honed in leatherwork, the meditative connection with indigo, and the quiet rhythms of family life, gave birth to my cold-process soap.

私のものづくりの原点は、20代で始めた革製品の創作にあります。

21歳で独立起業し、独学で革のなめし・染色・加工を学び、2001年にレザーブランド MAYUMI HASEGAWA （Currently ACAMAL）を創立。東京・表参道に直営店をオープンさせました。
自ら染め加工した革を使い、バッグ、ベルト、財布などを手仕事で制作。銀座SIXをはじめ全国の百貨店やセレクトショップで展開し、東京では毎年展示会を5年間開催しました。
財界人、アーティスト、アスリートなど、多くのファンに支持され、革業界初の女性デザイナーとしての地位を築きました。
職人たちと共に藍染めや漆を研究し、素材の本質を生かす手仕事の哲学を深める日々。そのすべてが、私の創作における無駄を生まないものづくりの精神を形作りました。

そして2020年、私たちは東京を離れ、豊かな自然が息づくアメリカ・ポートランドへ移住。
世界が静寂に包まれたあの時代、庭で芽吹く小さな藍の青は、遠い故郷の記憶と、共に歩む彼との物語を静かに呼び覚ましてくれました。

やがて私は、日本古来の「天然灰汁発酵建て」の技術を本格的に学び、藍と向き合う時間は、まるで深い青の瞑想のようでした。
発酵の呼吸に耳を澄ませ、自然のリズムに委ねながら抽出された成分には、驚くほど繊細で豊かな肌への恵みが秘められていました。

その美しさと肌へのやさしさを、手に取れるひとつの形として届けたい――。
こうして、革で培った素材への敬意と手仕事の哲学、庭で育てた藍の息づかい、そして家族との穏やかな暮らしがひとつになり、現在のコールドプレス石鹸が誕生しました。
